I'm a maximalist when it comes to wall decor. Should I leave walls white?

I am somewhat anal-expulsive when it comes to design. I have lots of framed pics and posters on the wall, and I love bold color. I'm moving into my first house (!) soon and my first thought was to paint the living room a light color on three walls with a bright, colorful accent wall.

Now I'm wondering whether I should keep all the walls a light color (like white, blech) since I will probably go nuts with the wallhangings, plants, and doodads. There is one picture window in the room, but it's shaded by the porch overhang out front so the room isn't hugely bright except in the afternoon.

Any advice? I love the cozy "lived in" look, where the space is welcoming. I don't want it to look like a TGIFriday's circa 2008, though.
